The Winner of the 2008 Donald Keene Center Special Prize for the Translation of Japanese Literature

Peter McMillan
For his translation entitled One Hundred Poets, One Poem Each

Peter McMillan hails from Ireland and has lived in Japan for twenty years. He is a Professor at Kyorin University in Tokyo. Professor McMillan teaches art, writing, poetry, and translation in the Faculty of Foreign Studies and the Graduate School. He is a poet and print-maker as well as a translator. In addition to the Donald Keene Prize, One Hundred Poets, One Poem Each: A Translation of the Ogura Hyakunin Isshu (Columbia University Press, 2008) was also awarded the Special Cultural Translation Prize from the Japan Society of Translators in Japan in 2008.
